Frozen Shoulder....
3 Answers
Hi, I think I am suffering with the beginning of a Frozen Shoulder. I went to the physio who said it could turn into that, and suggested some exercise and to return in a week. Well, at 30 a 30 min session, I took a trip to my docs. who gave me a curtisone injection which worked for a week, but now the pain is returning and so is the reduced movement. I am only 36. Any suggestions?
Many thanks. x

You can only have so many cortisone injections so get them to find out the root cause asap .Don't let them fob you of with injections, painkillers etc .Insist on an Xray !!

A frozen shoulder will actually start about 4" down your arm from your shoulder and if knocked the pain will be so excrutiating it'll knock you to the floor. physio is the only thing that worked for me insist that you doc gets them for you on NHS although you could be waiting a while.
I didn't have a cortisone injection I'm too much of a coward, but in any case it should have lasted longer than a week I hope you get it sorted soon and I do feel for you if you have got it.

You have my sympathy. You may be in for a very long haul. I have had two frozen shoulders at various times and both of them took around 18 months to cure themselves. I gather from other sufferers that this length of time is not uncommon.. Steroid injections sometimes help temporarily but can only be used on a limited basis.
When it's very bad you may have to resort to over-the-counter painkillers, especially if the pain is waking you at night. . Physio sessions didn't do any good for me and they are expensive. I think this is one of those complaints where doing gentle daily exercises at home will be just as effective to stop the joint freezing up completely. Be prepared for a long haul though, I'm afraid.
