my 86 year old father has trouble putting on his socks anyone know if there is anything he can buy to assist him .

yes, contact age concern or a O T their are gadgets out there specifically for this purpose,

yes there is an implement you can buy - i work in a chemist and we order specifics such as this for customers - any good chemist will have a catalogue of these kind of aids and they should order in for you. it's a kind of hoop on a stick, over which he will put his sock and then he will put his foot thru and it then pulls on. he will be able to do this from his seated position.

My dear Mum had trouble putting her socks on after breaking her hip.

Social services loaned her a contraption (a bit like iheartruby describes) which helped her snuggle them on comfortably.

Hope you find something to help your Dad.
