weightwatchers or the gym cant afford both which would more benefical ? also would you put on more weight going to the gym ? im only asking please be gentle thanks !!!!!!!!!!

Whilst i did not have the 'support' a WW meeting would provide, it was much more motivating as i could feel and see myself getting fitter. It really became quite addictive. Nearly talked myself into rejoining!
Personally I would do neither.
Weightwatchers is merely a calorie controlled diet making billions by serving small meals. Save yourself a fortune and cook smaller meals yourself!!!
As for the gym. Why oh why oh why? Fine if you are a seasoned athlete or bodybuilder but for just losing weight, what the hell is wrong with the outside?
People spend 40 plus quid a month to attend some gym (all of which smell of sperm) to spend 10 minutes on a treadmill, 5 minutes on said treadmill with an incline. 10 minutes on a bike, 10 minutes on some God-awful cross trainer and then do some light weight. All the time listening to crappy dance music and looking at people who are all sexy or sweating like a pigs minnie in labor. Nice.
Go for power walks and gentle jogging in the countryside and for weights just carry your shopping home instead.
Be good to the enviroment, save a fortune and spare the indignity of having a sweaty arse in public.
I hate gym culture with a passion!!!!
Everybody can lose weight and you don't need some lowly qualified dieticians or gym instructor to teach you this. It's all about dedication and committment.

By your own definition if it was as simple as joining a gym we would not have an obesity crisis would we?
I am not saying gyms do not work, of course they do. But all I am saying is scarymary is on a working wage so why bother spending it in a gym when you can get just as good a work out for free. You can even combine it with walking dogs from a local rescue centre.

I noticed a few pounds in the wrong place, so I loaded an ipod with some good novels and have spent the last weekends walking in a quiet place, doing 16 miles over two days. It's not difficult, it's free, and gets you in the open air. I've lost 5 pounds already and listened to a few Ruth Rendells.
I don't know about gyms smelling of semen, but I wouldn't even consider joining one. The solution is within you. Calories in, calories out. Go for it and good luck.

There are arguments for and against here but as most gyms offer free trials you could have a go and at least see if it is for you or not. Any form of exercise be it gym or outside is more beneficial to you overall than just dieting and will give you multiple benefits rather than just weight loss. Good Luck!
rosemary conley, weigh in and a mad 45 min workout!!!! brill, �19 a month and at least u get 4 gd classes, its low fat eating which is a way of life 4ever, no calorie counting for me!
but i do do 150 mins a week of cardio + exercises at home, biceps and triceps only need a sofa and one set of free weights. lost 29lbs and feel great

Gawd knows what "Gym" you've been going to bewlay, semen?? you sure it was a Gym? Anyway to answer the question, out of the 2 Mary I'd go with the Gym, WW just rely on fear of public humiliation and charge �7 a week for the priviledge. Now i'm an avid Gymer myself but I do take on the points about about getting out there walking or cycling. I use the Gym because It focuses me on working out ,at lunch time in my case, rather than just eating.

Gym every time for me, and then just easy sensibly most of the time. I go to the gym and go running (in the lovely hills of Saddleworth) too, but I am fortunate to be able to take extended lunch-breaks each day. Ideally, we should all do some moderate exercise each day, whether it is a brisk walk, a gentle swim, or a 10 miler :)
The gyms I go to do not smell of semen, however they are populated with people who have a respect for their body and want to get/stay fit. The treadmill can also be good for rehabilitation after ankle/foot problems as the surface is quite forgiving and totally flat (i.e. no potholes!)
Why not give it a go; in my experience gyms are full of people of all shapes and sizes, and from all walks of life. And my monthly membership is �26.00, and I go back to the office feeling totally refreshed! Give it a go scarym.

If you do put on more weight at the gym it will be because you are building muscle. One pound of muscle is actually a lot smaller in bulk that one pound of fat, so you will lose inches (unless you are truly excessive and use steroids and so on).
You know what you should and shouldn't be eating. Take control of the diet yourself - it's common sense - and get moving in any way you enjoy. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you are moving and enjoying it.

I agree with Ethel, it really is common sense as to what foods are good for you and what should be eaten in moderation only. I think WW is a waste of time, you'd spend half your life juggling your points round just to make sure you could have a sandwich in your lunchbreak!

Like most PT's she doesn't work for the gym, she's self employed and you don't have to be a gym member to hire her. She doesn't just motivate me and give me excercise routines to keep me interested, she also gives dietary & nutritional advice, and is always at the other end of the phone if i need her.
You might find a session with a PT once a week, or fortnight will work out cheaper than Gym membership, and you should get diet tips included in your fee.
