My 4 month old went to the doctor today and I spoke with him regarding a small round infected area on her cheek. At first he thought it was cradle cap, but after more investigation he said it was some sort of fungus infection. What is that from? Could it come from people touching her face with dirty hands?
Fungal infections can be extremely infectious - athletes foot is a common example. Thrush is another very common fungal infection, particularly in babies and those on antibiotics.
It wouldn't be caught by dirty hands as such, although the infection itself can be transmitted by touch - so if somebody with it touched your baby with an infected hand, it could be passed on.
But it is extremely common in young children and nothing to be really concerned about.
Ringworm is zoonotic so check any pets you have, especially cats.
It is very infectious and very itchy, so take extra care with hand washing etc.
This is also very common, I caught it from a cow when we had a farm.
Hope the babies better soon.
