I looked in to this last year - sadly I am not suitable and would still need glasses.
However - I say three different consultants. Two told me I wasn't suitable after thorough examinations.
One said I was suitable and they were very keen to do it. However, the disclaimer I would have had to sign would have prevented me claiming any compensation if the operation was not successful. All they wanted was my 3000. They told me their surgeon was a consultant at my local eye hospital. I phoned the hospital and they had no knowledge of him. I contacted the Health Authority and they confirmed that he had qualified in Nigeria and had never ever practiced for the NHS.
So be very careful. Ask your doctor for a recommendation and see as many different consultants as is practicable. I didn't have to pay for any of my consultations.

your prescription needs to be stable for 24/12 and you need to be over 21, it also depends on your prescription, corneal thickness and a few other parameters.
my brother and sister have both had it, wavefront LASIK, 4 years ago neither needs glasses even now.
i would do plenty of reasearch though and probably avoid optical express

I'm a dispensing optician and I would think very carefully before you do it. There can be side effects such as starring and glare, headaches etc. You also can't guarantee that you won't need glasses afterwards, you may just end up with a smaller prescription. I have also met people who have been short sighted before and long sighted afterwards and this can mess your head up!
Having said that I am probably slightly biased as I only see the negative side. What is your prescription? If you are quite badly long/short sighted I guess even if you still need specs afterwards an improvement in vision could make a big difference to your life

I had mine done at OPTIMAX and wish I had, had it done years ago!
My eyes were not 'perfect' as I walked out the door - and it took a good two weeks to be able to see clearly - (I had both eyes done at the same time)
...but having had it done for some 6-7 years now - I love it! no glasses and all those trendy sunglasses! :-)
