Suicidal Thoughts
112 Answers
I experienced a psychotic episode last year and began hearing voices. I am also taking anti-depressants, but for the first time I have begun to feel suicidal. My mother has recently entered a home because she is suffering from dementia, my best friend is very seriously ill and my brother and I are no longer communicating. I do not have close family or friends to call upon and sadly I've never been popular and able to mix with people comfortably. At 50, the sense of loneliness and despair is all engulfing and I feel it's all too much and that my life and future prospects are never going to improve. I accept I sound like a self obsessed whinger, but I'm at the end of my tether and just don't know what to do.

I have had these feelings in the past and I went to see my GP who referred me to councellor. I won't go into detail but I had a bout of depression some years ago and was prescribed Prozac. I also had suicidal thoughts as I felt useless and no good to anyone. I still have bouts of depression which will probably be with me forever.
Please contact your GP as Daffy has said. Also, as your friend is seriously ill they are depending on you for support. You are very valuable to them. Please get help immediatly.

Ripley - please, please have another talk with your doctor and be as frank as possible about how you're feeling. If you're dis, issed as attention seeking, seek an appointment with another doctor.
Sweetie, a good friend of mine ended it all, and a few days later, my cousin did the same. The anguish of those left behind was - and still is at times - almost unbearable, to the point of almost wanting to follow suit. There are people who can help you - starting with the Samaritans, and there are dozens of very understanding people on here, so please talk to us whenever you fee like it - xx
