Was fitted with the Marina Coil in May due to very heavy periods. Doc said give it 3/6/months and they would become very light/non exsistant. 6 months later still getting a period every 13/17 days which last for 14 days. Anyone else have this problem sure they said I had fibroids in the womb when I went for a scan wondering if this could be the problem? Either way it is driving me nuts.

Had mine fitted 18 months ago and haven't looked back. My periods stopped immediately - for which I was very grateful (like you I was told it could take 3 months). I also have fibroids (which are still growing by the way). If your periods are still as bad as that I think you should go back to the gynaecologist. They should certainly have got much lighter by now. Good luck. I know just how awful it can be - I didn't realise until I saw a new doctor that my problems had been going on for 8 years!! (and that was just when I went to the doctor it had been bad for several years before that).
Hi Debbieanne,
I also had the Marina Coil fitted in January this year because I was suffering from heavy periods, fibroids and a cyst. I had nothing but trouble since having it fitted, I did not stop bleeding and felt really ill and weak until I had it removed in July, in August I then had a procedure what is called a Therma-choice as a day patient in my local Hospital and I haven`t looked back since.
My periods have stopped all together and I feel much better in myself. I have to have more scans on the fibroids and cyst but they are not causing any problems. So don`t suffer, ask for this option, which I know you will benefit from it.

Thanks for the replies to my question. Bustergutt can you give me more info on the therma-choice and what it entails. I have another hospital appointment next month and I think they are going to offer me a HR which I don't really want
debbieanne,
This is a fact sheet on the Thermachoice procedure.

Hi
i have had heavy periods all my life and the only relief was being pregnant or on the pill. Since being sterilized 14 years ago they began to get worse and had lots of really heavy clots. They wanted me to have the coil but i had been sterilized and didnt see the point, i persisted and i had an endometrial ablation (look it up on Bupa). I rarely have periods now and if i do they are for a few hours at most. This is not rec if you have not had children but ok if you have had all yours. Ask your doctor if this is poss. Hope this helps.
