Yes.
It can be a sign of problems with the liver.
He needs to see his GP pronto.
Yes..it needs investigation as many conditions other than the liver can cause jaundice, which is what you are describing.
Gall bladder or Bile Duct obstructions can cause jaundice, and it usually means a fairly urgent operation. The eyes are usually the first place to show yellowness, soon followed by the skin.
This is also a symptom of worsening probs with gallstones Cholecystitis which can be serious if not treated
When I was rushed into hospital some time back, it wasn't until after I'd passed a kidney stone, then eventually safely back home, that my daughters & husband told me the whites of my eyes & my skin colour had been yellow at the time.

BTW, I'm not a drinker.
I knew there was something wrong with my Dad by the whites of his eyes. No one would listen to me. He was dead in just over a year from liver cancer.
My eyes have a yellow tinge to them on occasion, this is due to a condition called cholestasis which I got during pregnancy. It should fix itself after giving birth but in my case it hasn't yet.
Sorry to hear about your Dad ummmm. Awful illness.

A friend of ours was an alcoholic & as the years passed the whites of her eyes became even more yellow, but not so much her skin.

The 'secret' drinking caught up with her in the end & she died two years ago of cirrhosis of the liver, aged just 62.
Congrat's to you Lore & hope your eyes 'get better' soon.
