Why do we produce ear wax? Bearing in mind that we have an ear drum, which presumably seals off the ear canal, where does the wax come from and why do we get it?

Ear wax is mildly anti-bacterial.

Ear wax is produced by glands in the outer ear canal called ceruminous glands.

Why do we get it.....God knows.
I assume it is just the natural body oils that all your skin produces, but it doesn't get washed off down your lug hole.
