Okay, I know you are all going to say I shouldn't do this, and the doctor shouldn't, but I've just missed an exam, worth only a small amount of marks, but apparently the course will be viewed as incomplete if I don't have a doctors note.

I didn't mean to miss it, but I wasn't too worried about it until I found out I couldn't self-certificate myself out of it.

Now... the question. How easy is it to get a doctor's note, and will the campus doctors be happy to give me one if I go in, say I was a touch sick, okay now etc. explain my situation.

Do the doctors have an understanding with students or lecturers?

Will the doctor tell me to sod off?

Flashpig, that sucks...where i live docotors will gladly give out notes for only 20bucks..i missed exams b4 because i went on a cruise, but however i didnt end up failing the class...hopefully u will still pass! but yeah ask ur docotor..for a fee i dont think he wud mind.

My doctor gives you one just to get you out of his office!
Er....Sorry, but that sounds like corruption to me ! And it's a gross violation of the Hippocratic oath, if I'm not mistaken, to accept money in exchange of a false statement ! I don't know where you guys are from, but I don't know many doctors who would risk losing their career over 20 quid ! that said, you can still ask nicely, and try and convince them you were really sick ( try food poisoning, or migraine, anything that could have put you in bed for a day or two ). But I don't think you should even try offering money! Good luck

I think the doctor will just tell you to sod off. You should (if you were going to be underhand about it) have at least had the foresight to feign illness BEFORE the actual exam. Your doctor is never going to believe you now.

PS: I'm shocked at the doctors who give out sick notes willy nilly- my mum's a GP and I know for a fact she's hard as nails where anything like that is concerned. I once broke two ribs on a skiing holiday and she made me ski to the bottom of the mountain before she told me..

Flashpig, how about asking the professor if you can make the exam up another time?
If you're from UK, then yes, i'm afraid he will tell you to sodd off. I think the first couple of answerers are not from here? I'm with georgit79 on this one.

Is this question for real??  I'm with Maximo, sounds like the smell of corruption! As Zgma said, why don't you go cap-in-hand to your lecturer and expalin what happened - might get you somewhere?

(By the way, Georgeit79, I feel WELL scared of your Mum!!) xx

i think the doctor should tell you to sod off, you sound like a typical lazy wants something for nothing student
if you'd gone on the day or even the day after maybe, but i guess this is a while ago - in which case you have no chance... I made this sort of mistake at uni and had to redo half a year because i didn't attend a 20 minute test - very annoyed but no way out of it i'm afraid
pinkcandy: I have to say that I resent your comment about all students being "typically lazy," and " good for nothing."  I can assure you that I, like many others, worked extremely hard whilst a student in order to acheive what i have today, and I certainly NEVER expected to have "something for nothing." So, I suggest that you think before voicing snap judgements about certain groups of people, you may land yourself in hot water one of these days!
