What is the cure for tinitus?

I have recently developed tinitus, but have been told that there is no cure for this, except suicide. Can any of you fellow ABers be more positive, and tell me how I can cure this intolerable condition?

Difficult problem as tinnitus is a symptom, not a disease.
Have you been examined by an ENT Surgeon?
If so what did he say?

As sqad says, knowing what causes it could help as if you can sort that then the tinnitus should go.

I have it through menieres and have medication to help.

You could try and refocus one something else, hard I know but it gets easier the longer you have it as the worst thing you can do is just keep letting it wind you up as it'll keep driving you mad.

I find a personal stereo helps fool mine somehow.

As you have been told there is no cure but there are various things available to use the discomfort. Somebody I know has hearing aid devises that play some sort of noise down the ear to counteract the tinitus noises. Don't know anything else about them. Ask your GP.
