Eustachian Tube Dysfunction
4 Answers
I have a perforated eardrum and slight hearing loss in one ear. I went to ENT to get some wax vaccuumed out and the nurse syringed loads of oil in till it hurt. For 6 months my ear has been blocked and my hearing much worse. I believe it is eustachian tube dysfunction as I get a lot of crackling and sometimes it sounds like fireworks exploding. So far the hospital hasn't attempted to sort things out and I've only been given drops which are useless.
I am not sure how they would be able to examine the Eustachian tubes for a problem as I guess the usual instruments for ears don't let them look in that far. I wonder if anyone else has had a problem and can tell me what the procedure is.

Eustachian Tube Dysfunction is diagnosed on history and examination of the ENT.
I would not have thought that a perforated ear should be syringed by a nurse.
You need complete evaluation, X-Rays and blood tests in a reputable ENT Unit, before a diagnosis could be entertained.
