Bakers Cyst
4 Answers
I have a Bakers cyst behind my right knee or so I've been told by the doctor. However I am being sent for an ultrasound with aspiration. What can I expect when I go for my appointment?

Presumably they will draw some of the fluid for testing. Could this make the cyst burst, I believe that can be quite painful.
Minty....got it now.
The Ultrasound will confirm if it is a fluid filled, which will confirm the diagnosis of Baker's Cyst or solid, which will mean back to the drawing board.
Assuming the diagnosis is correct then it will mean a needle inserted in to the cyst and fluid drawn out and then probably Cortisone injected into the space through the very same needle.
Some doctors anaesthetise the skin before inserting the needle, others don't bother as it is so quickly inserted.....just like an ordinary injection.
Never had it done myself, but it is regarded as "non painful"
Good luck.

Had my appointment for the scan and had confirmation of Bakers Cyst behind my right knee. The doctor who performed the scan decided not to remove any fluid from it because he said as it wasn't giving me pain it wasn't worth doing and that the fluid would only be back in a few months. Eventually may need surgery on the knee. Thought I would just let you know the outcome Sqad as you were kind enough to give me your thoughts on the matter.
