One of my neighbours has for the last seven years been speaking about being engaged to a man who no-body has ever seen. Now and then she comes to visit for a chat and talks about this man and the arrangements that she has made for the wedding. She tells me that she has even bought her wedding dress. In these seven years she has never spent a Christmas with him or taken a holiday with him. She is a nice woman and not the sort to engage in lying for the sake of it. Is there a medical term for what is wrong with her and is there anything that her neighbours can do to help. Would appreciate if anyone has knowledge of this sort of behaviour.

No...I believed her. I have seen him as he's a pharmacist and I use to go into his chemist shop. We were just never introduced to him. She's a born again Christian so she was waiting for him to 'ask God' into his life. He kept making excuses (I think he was Muslim) but personally I thought he was married.
My nan comes out with some wierd and wonderful stuff, albeit believeable, not nonsense, just untrue.
Doesn't mean she is not telling the truth though. None of us knew my aunt was seeing someone until she announced her engagement, similarly, no-one, not even her sister or parents, knew my cousin had had a baby until she turned up with an 18 month old. No reason for either to be kept a secret. It was also many many years before it was revealed another aunt's sister was actually her daughter.
I know they were someone not telling something but in general I find some people can be funny for all kinds of reasons.
Maybe he is married or of another religion or similar which presents problems in them being together.
You could always ask to meet the wonderful man you have heard so much about.
