I cant sleep and got addicted to Co Drydramol pain killers to help me sleep. I stopped taking them when I realised I was getting dependent,,so now take 2 Piriton a night,a bit less "strong".I dont want to go to the drs and get tranquillisers because I know they are addictive, but any thing that doesnt involve pills (or hot milk-eww!).I saw an article once about looking at the ceiling in a certain way for a period of time, but dont remember it.HELP!

Phys. Either gym or exercise or sport during the day, or sex at night
Fresh air and exercise about 1hr before bedtime. Bit difficult I know in winter weather! Music does it for me. Just play some nice music fairly quietly.
relaxing hot bath. no stimulants. and dont sleep with anyone who snores!
They say a routine. Have a bath...then get into bed and write down what's on your mind. Anything that might be bothering you...your 'to do' list for the next day. Stuff like that. It's suppose to help you clear your mind.
Yep, ear plugs if you sleep with a snorer!!

Actually, although Elbow is a favourite band of mine, playing their music makes me go to sleep. It is so, so relaxing.
If your a bloke, the best way is sex (either with someone or alone). Just ask any woman what men do straight after!!

I am a bloke, and I know I do it
Yeh, and we want to talk!!

Sex is out (no man!),and excersise too is out as I am on dialysis.I will try the music one though, thanks all xx
Sorry I couldn't help revel.
Lofty, we know you want to talk, however for us sleeping is instinctual so stop being selfish
Foods rich in tryptophan produce seratonin which will help you sleep.
The best three foods for this are turkey, cottage cheese and Montmorency cherries (juice available in Tesco).

The bizarre thing is that if you eat any or all of them to aid sleep, you must eat them within 30 mins of getting UP on a morning.

I know this all sounds weird, but it does work!
personally listening to the guy's talking about football at the bar puts me out like a light......

serioulsy have youe tried warm bath before bed? app lavendar on your pillow can help, i usually read till i drop off
I've just read you are on dialysis. In that case, watch the cherry juice as it has potassium in it, and the cottage cheese is phosphate rich.
Like hell do we want to talk...I talk to him all evening.
Bobjugs ;o)
revel - are you on HD or PD?
Trying to keep your eyes open for as long as you can sometimes helps. (Seriously. Get all comfy in bed then instead of closing your eyes, try to keep them open and focussed on one spot.)
Also, listening to talking book cds does it for me. Get them from the library then start them off after you get into bed. Then, if you don't sleep, at least you will be being entertained. Old familiar stories are a good bet, nothing too racy or scarey. Doing this also makes you aware of how much you do sleep , even when you think you have been awake all night....you realise that you have missed bits of the story and have to rewind.
Good luck.
i got told to eat a banana an our before bed
