yup I had it...heel spur or plantar fasciitis. I cured mine by spending 3 or 4 weekends in a row totally resting the foot. Link here

If it's plantar fasciitis , it is really v painful. I had it some years ago and it took nearly 12 months to go entirely - don't want to cheer you up. Went to a podiatrist for weeks for treatment - orthotics and such like. The best exercise is first thing in the morning before you get up, roll up a towel, wrap it round your instep and pull your toes up 10 times to stretch the plantar fascia tendon which runs under your foot, also rolling your instep on a rolling pin, and walking using your toes to pull you along, if you know what I mean. They all work. Good luck.
I had these symptoms - I started using an axe to break up the firewood instead of my foot, and 2 weeks later the symptoms were completely gone.
My point is - do you do anything that repeatedly shocks your feet - e.g. running, wearing very thin soles, etc?
I do believe that this condition is also known as policeman's heel and yes it is very painful. My ex girlfriend had it and it was very debilatating but she put off having treatment because she had been told that this was even more painful. In the end she went for a cortisone injection and she cried (I was holding her hand) as the needle was pushed deeper into her heel. Back home she said that she would NEVER have that done again, but after a couple of days, when her heel was back to normal, she conceded that she would. So treatment is painful, yes, but ultimately worth it as it is usually completely effective.

Thanks for all the replies, dont think I shall be having the injection though aaagghh! I will just suffer but not in silence lol
Been hobbling around for a month or so now due to a similar sounding ailment. But I just woke up with mine. Had this sort of thing before. It's a race as to whether the heel stops hurting first, or whether the limping takes the calf muscles out as well. Gradually easing. I just assumed it was old age.
A friend of mine who had the same condition for months finally cured it when she started wearing Fit -Flops. I've heard Crocs are good too
I had plantar fasciitis caused by too much walking. It was misdiagnosed as a severe sprain and I was on crutches for 6 months. I finally went to a sports injury specialist who cured it in two visits with massage. It didn't just hurt in the mornings though, so perhaps what you have isn't that.
A friend of mine had this - really bad pain in the heel. She went to the foot specialist who said she needed custom-built insoles for her shoes. Yeh right, we thought.
But they are a total god-send - no more pain at all, although they took quite a bit of getting used to!
