Why do yoga positions translate so badly...

I was trying to hold 'the downward facing dog' position last night and i thought that's not exercise its an invitation
Some are fine... what's the proper name for this so I dont get an unpleasant surprise one day

You are Northampton aren't you? big enough town to find a good one.. They have professional bodies.... the woman who treated me was english but she'd studied in china for 10 years or so... I was in a really bad place and I don't know how she did it but she got me up enough to get help...
