My partner has confided to me tonight (slightly sozzled) that she has a problem with her exterior nether regions; I should point out that we are quite old and that nether region contact is not commonplace between us,(haven't got the energy). She says it feels as if she has been "scalded"all over that area.She says it started about a month ago as a slight itch and has progressed from there.It doesn't bother her all the time but when it does it is very uncomfortable.She has tried various creams and lotions to no avail.I suggested that she may have changed her washing powder etc but apparantly nothing has changed so I am stumped All answeres appreciated

Don´t worry it is almost certainly nothing serious, as :bez says it may well be eczema or a fungal infection. See your GP as a cream will soon clear it up.

just to add that of course she should see a doc as it could be a number of harmless things, not all of which clear up with antifungal medication;and the doc will know which it is and what to prescribe. For ladies of a certain age, itchy nether regions can also be a first symptom of diabetes, again easily controlled but needs addressing by a visit to the doc.
If she REALLY REALLY won't however then Canestan antifungal treatment for nether regions is available at the chemist, either an oral tablet and nether region cream or a pessary and nether region cream do not confuse the two lol. Canestan also do an athlete's foot treatment, don't confuse that one either.

Look up Lichen sclerosis. See if any symptoms match hers. But yes she really should see her GP.

Please do assure her that the GP will have seen it all before - I know it can be embarrassing baring all to the doctor. It may be very easily cleared up, get her to ring the GP in the morning!

Just an update to you very helpfull people.My partner saw her GP and was assured that it was nothing dreadful and it was fairly common in "ladies of a certain age" She has been given an antibiotic/steroidal cream which will hopefully clear the problem up. Thank you all once again for your invaluable help. S.O.G.
