Worth a visit to Docs?
56 Answers
Today is the 3rd day my 6yr old has had a temp (up to 39). She says she has a sore throat but I can't see anything yucky in it which looks like tonsillitus. Once medicine works she is ok but not herself. I don't know whether its worth taking her to GP as they will more than likely say its a virus and won't be able to do anything. What do others think?

tigwig, if the spikes in high temp are getting further apart and there are no other signs of any illness (sore throat can come with a cold) then if it was my child I would see it as a sign that they are improving and not worry about sharing germs in a busy doctors surgery.
But thats just what Id do with mine.

Tigwig,
Whatever you decide, i do hope your daughter gets better soon........and if you dont take her today, and she still has the same symptoms over the weekend, and you're worried, please call NHS direct or take her to casualty to be checked out.
And Annie's not wrong, sqad....tigwig came on here for advice, as she's unsure what to do in this case for her daughter. I would already have an appt made imo.
Anneasquith is also correct....so what to do?........the decision is with tigwig.

maybe not sqad, what I was trying to say was that things are not always what they appear both in my sons and my friends case - you don't go to the doctor because you think it isn't worth bothering them, but sometimes things aren't what they appear to be and in hindsight it would have been better to go - it doesn't sound on the face of it that tigwig has any need to be particularly concerned, but she was worried enough to seek advice here.
ÓK let´s look at the facts........6yr old child, ill for 3 days with maximum temp of 39degC, with minimal throat signs and symptoms, no other symptoms as described by a sensible and positive outlook, treated with Calpol has received 38 posts.
tigwig.......I did warn you from the start that I would be in deep trouble.......LOL
