Fish that nibble your feet
17 Answers
Has anybody had one of those treatments where you put your feet in a pool and fish nibble the skin off? I suffer terribly from itchy feet and always have lots of dry skin flaking off (probably because I keep scratching them lol) and wondered if this would help.

I've had the treatment - it was good!. The fish just tickle, no biting or nibbling. Mine lasted 30mins but I reckon 20mins would have been long enough as the fish seem to "ease off" as time goes by. The fish are quite tiny - the biggest were only 3 or 4 cm. Mine was a Groupon deal - they come up quite often in my region.
There Called garra fish and lots of Beauty salons offer this treatment now but beware apperenlty they can spread disease!

These salons are now all over the country. I tried it and thought it was a waste of money. It's just the latest "thing" isn't it? I recommend a "pedegg" instead. They're about £10 and last for YEARS. There's been a lot of bad press about these fish pedicures concerning the rumour that they can spread infections etc. Whether or not that is true of course... Try it Lankeela, who knows, you may like it. Personally, it was a waste of money for me. Good luck though if you decide to have a go.

I've been a couple of times and thought it was great and really relaxing! The water's constantly filtered, so I wasn't too worried about infections, etc. My mum and I both noticed a huge difference after half an hour each (her feet are/were a lot worse than mine, though, haha!). I have been once early morning and once in the late afternoon and the fish were definitely "hungrier" in the morning, so did a better job. They were also slightly bigger fish, which I reckon makes a difference. Sign up to Groupon; I got a voucher for us each for £12 that should have been £30, then you've not got much to lose.
I've be been too and enjoyed it. It was relaxing and felt lovely afterwards, I'm sure it would help your flaky skin. Its well worth trying it for yourself and seeing what you think if only for the experience.
I had 15 mins for £10 as there were 4 of us. It was first thing in the morning with no-one else waiting so the 15 mins turned into about 25 which was just right. I thought I'd probably go regularly but I haven't been again since; but then I don't go for any other beauty treatments either, never seem to have the time.
One other thing that is worth trying is porridge oats in the shower! Put a cup full in an old sock and tie it up. Use it to wash with in the shower and your skin with feel silky smooth. Best to chuck it away afterwards so you can get through some socks, but its what Primark £1 socks were made for.

I reckon you could take a holiday to the Med. and have the treatment for free.
Many years ago, while playing catch, standing up to my waist in the sea – I felt a nip at my legs.
I soon realised it was small fish biting at my skin. If I stood still for a minute or so, the fish would return to feast on me. Although I don’t know whether the fish would be brave enough to enter the shallows (should you just dip your feet at the waters edge) – why not have an all over treatment by standing in water up to your neck.
If I had a serious skin condition I would certainly consider such an option – but I would also worry about the intense sun on my skin.

if your going to go for it then book the first appointment of the day, as has already been said the fish are hungrier in the morning so you'll get more for your money and also the places that do this are meant to treat the water or change the water everynight so you'll not have to put your feet in the dirty water
