NHS hospitals

Can anyone tell me the number of NHS hospitals in the GB and NI? Small, large - the number of beds is not important.

I wouldn't like to hazard a guess, since they are all run by different Trusts and serve different purposes. It's probably easy enough to enumerate the big acute hospitals but there are hundreds of community units, mental health units, etc., and many of them are going through mergers at the moment - so some hospitals will all come under the same umbrella name but have several hospital units under them.

It's for a presentation, but I think I'll stick to my acute hospitals in my own geographical area. That would be a lot simpler.
