Hole in the leg, cont. More questions....

Tomorrow it will be 3 weeks since I had the operation. I have been having it dressed daily, including packing up until this Monday when the nurses decided it could be done every other day.

As I was at the hospital yesterday they told me to do the dressing myself when I got home so I had a shower before I went to hospital and just put a fresh dressing over the top, no packing. When I removed the dressing to show the doctor there was blood on it. There is always gunky stuff but there hasn't been blood since I had the op. Is that normal? Should I be worried about the bleeding? I did ask the doctor but he could not answer a single one of my questions.

Oh, I should add the doctor said he didn't want it packed anymore so this morning the gunky stuff had come through to the outside of the dressing.

Infections, particularly infections resitant to treatment heal by what is known as "granulations" and these are very vascular (bloody) and is a sign of healing in your case.

Should you be worried?.....No.

Is this the same thing from the bite? Reading that made me shudder. How awful for you :(

Blimey! All that from an incest bite. Thank goodness they don't seem to bother me. You poor thing :(
I agree, this site is invaluable for things like this. I am a bit of a worrier, so it's really great to be able to get advice and put your mind at rest.

That's lucky then Sqad because every proffessional I have seen says it's the worst case they have seen in this country and tell me it's going to take a "long time" to heal. So I am sure there will be plenty more questions in that "long time".

Anne - I'm serious about the photos. I love showing them off and making people feel ill. I take new ones each week.

Flip - it was a big hole. about the circumfrance of an egg cup and roughly 1.5 inch deep. You could see the muscle through it first at first.

I saw something about this the other day. I think you have to use a website to upload the image and then post the link on here. Tinypic.com possibly?
I don't even know why I'm telling you this, as I certainly have no desire to see it... although curiosity just may get the better of me.
