my boyfriend suffers from bad floaters in his eyes which he had checked out by an optician who said all seemed well. Since then, as well as the floaters which he says are really interferring with his vision, he now has what he describes as little sparkles in his eyes. He is also suffering with bad headaches. He has made an appointment with the doctor but I wondered if anybody out there knew what he is describing. Thanks.

I sometimes get sparkly bits in my eyes usually after getting up from say lying or sitting for a while. I put it down to changes in blood pressure in the tiny blood vessels in the eye.
BUT: He should definitely go to the doc if he's getting them a lot. If they are literally 'flashes' of light then he definitely needs to see someone soon as this can indicate a few serious problems. May also be worth going back to the optician too as often they have more experience of eye problems than GPs.
I am in no way an expert, but I was told that any sparkles in front of your eyes, could be a sign of retina detachment.  I would encourage your boyfriend to get down to the opticians rather than the GP, as they will have all the equipment there to have a good look in the eye and check for anything untoward.  You’ll probably get to see the optician quicker too!

Thanks for answering, shall get him to check it out soon as.

my girlfriend has complained about this for years - she has been checked inside (her skull) and out. I would recommend getting further check ups because it can indicate other problems, but in the case of my g/f they said there was nothing they could do and it was simply an adnormality of the eye that was allowing her to see parts of the internal structure of the eye (they had a much more indepth explaination but this is the gist). One thing they did help with tho, that improved the situation, was to treat her for a problem with her sinuses which can flair up the eye problem for some reason
