When waking up having had, the previous night, a very, very large dinner (without alcohol), one tends to feel very, very hungry - far hungrier than if one had had simply an adequate amount of food. Why is this?

Don't know for sure -- but this has happened to me.  Perhaps the stomach is slighty "stretched" after a big meal and craves more food at the next meal then previously expected.
Or it may be that the larger amount of food has sent your metabolism into overdrive and has spent all night working hard to burn off the extra and your metabolism after all that hard work is taking some time to settle?

To be honest that is just a stab in the dark as I really don't have a clue!!! LOL
I asked this question not so long ago, and nobody came up with any answers!!! I'm sure there must be an obvious biological reason- the stomach stretching one makes a lot of sense.

an interesting bit of useless trivia... from the source of all knowledge and wisdom - Oprah..... there was a show about forensics, and a doctor showed the audience many actual human body parts..... the stomach could fit over the palm of his hand.....

:-)

I would agree with Litchick.  I have experienced this many times, and I suppose that's why we put on weight.  The more we eat, the more we want to eat.
