from low to high blood pressure

Went to the doctors with hubbie this morning, and to get MY blood pressure took as well. His was normal and mine was very high,so was asked if I've felt ok last night and this morning. Must admit it scared me a bit. I only went to doctors really to ask to come off Simvastins. Doc said no.
My blood pressure is normally a bit low, so why the sudden rise?
Mine was 160/100. Is that too high and would you be a bit worried.
Off for blood tests at hosp in the morning.

I assume that you are not taking BP lowering tablets.
That BP of yours is a bit high, but remember it is only one reading at one particular time of the day. Many would suggest "White Coat Syndrome" but I am not a fan of it.
If it were me....I would go to Boots and get a BP cuff and take my BP morning afternoon and night for a week and then see if it remains high.

Hi,
I had pressure of 180/105 for several years, my doctor prescribed beta blockers, they caused me to have migrane effects. I then had all sorts of tablets, pressurealways up, but feeling fine. My pressure was eventually controlled by bendo fluoremethiacide,( almost the correct spelling) a small white table. pressure is now always 120/80 when I am active, and a frightening 90/40 when watching the telly for an hour. very dizzy when first moving from armchair, but soon back to normal. My Moyher has high blood pressure when at the doctors, and extremely low pressure when I it take at my house, this is doctor surgery nerves, I am sure, but they keep giving her tablets to lower her pressure, which makes her dizzy, a bit of a catch 22. I am sure my machine is correct, I take the pressure of all the family, and most are within the normal bounds, so do as an earlier person said, get your own machine ( LLoyds the chemist is very cheap and good quality) and take your pressure at home after relaxing for a while.

I sometimes wonder whether having a blood pressure monitor at home is such a good idea! People do seem to become obsessed with taking their blood pressure. We have one because at one point Mr LL had to take his regularly.
I use it rarely, but what it has proved is that when I go to the Medical Centre to have it taken my blood pressure goes absolutely sky high because I worry so much. And yes I do have white coat syndrome, as soon as I get anywhere near a hospital or the doctors I become a nervous wreck.

That is the point in having a BP machine at home to exclude the ubiquitous "White Coat Syndrome"
The other great advantage is to know at what part of the day, if ever, your BP becomes unacceptably high and gives the GP a good idea of your condition.
Also for the first few weeks starting on hypotensive drugs one can "juggle the timing to suit the time of administration...e.g if your BP is highest first thing in the morning, then it might be wise to take your tablets on going to bed.
Used wisely they can be extremely helpful

I don't doubt they can be useful Sqad, but I have known some people to be forever taking their blood pressure, even those who have no blood pressure problems.

My blood pressure is low in the mornings, so am I right to be taking the meds. at night? I only assume it is low in the morning because I am sluggish in the mornings and 'not with it' at all when I get up and sometimes feel a bit spaced.
Because I am such an anxious person my blood pressure is all over the place though. But blood tests are all fine.

One's BP is usually higher in the mornings, but if i was in a situation where my BP started to rise unacceptably during the day, then i would take my BP tablets in the morning, whereas if my BP was highest in the morning then i would take them at night.

Hiya all. Just a quick update.
Went to doc's this morning for blood tests, and all went well.
Hubbie innocently said he thinks my b/p is up because i dont do enough excercise and sit at the p.c too often !!!! He's having a laugh?
We went for a lovely long stroll along a Nature reserve y/day afternoon.
I get no sympathy in this house lol
