I popped over to Budapest at the weekend to see a friend who is working there, and on the flight I sat next to a lady who must have been at least 20 stone - she was huge.
In addition to taking up her own space, her size meant she was taking up probably about a third of my space as well, which made for an extremely uncomfortable flight.
This isn't the first time this has happened to me.
Should there be a booking condition whereby if you are over a certain weight you have to purchase 2 tickets - and if you don't, you don't fly?
The current situation is not fair on those of us within a 'normal' weight band who are made to suffer because some people can't control their eating.
Flip_flop but what if they're really big but not fat, I have friends who are bodybuilders and their shoulder width would possibly make it very uncomfortable for you if you were on a bus train or plane with them.
'Normal' weight would be where a persons bulk is not spilling into someboy elses space.
Some people are fat because of medical conditions, but they are very much in the minority. Most fat people are fat because they eat too much and exercise too little.
Maybe she only seemed that because she was wearing half her luggage to avoid excess baggage charges on her suitcase.
Re bondgirl007- Yes we can't assume it is the person's own fault that they are so big, but I still think flip-flop has a point in that some people take up more than their fair share of space and make the journey uncomfortable for others
Perhaps it would help if the airlines would fit slightly larger seats and stop piling people in like sardines? I do find that many airlines try to maximise their profits by squeezing as many seats as possible onto their aircraft, totally disregarding passenger comfort, legroom and sometimes even safety etc. Especially the cheap fair airlines do this. A sign of our times?
