I popped over to Budapest at the weekend to see a friend who is working there, and on the flight I sat next to a lady who must have been at least 20 stone - she was huge.

In addition to taking up her own space, her size meant she was taking up probably about a third of my space as well, which made for an extremely uncomfortable flight.

This isn't the first time this has happened to me.

Should there be a booking condition whereby if you are over a certain weight you have to purchase 2 tickets - and if you don't, you don't fly?

The current situation is not fair on those of us within a 'normal' weight band who are made to suffer because some people can't control their eating.

what do u brand as "normal"
Flip_flop but what if they're really big but not fat, I have friends who are bodybuilders and their shoulder width would possibly make it very uncomfortable for you if you were on a bus train or plane with them.
exactly and not all fat people are fat cos they cant stop eating ie thyroid problems
I would rather have an over sized person than an ignorant one who insists on reclining their seats, happened to me on Saturday
arghhh!
Bobbisox, better than an unruly child constantly kicking the back of your chair. :)

'Normal' weight would be where a persons bulk is not spilling into someboy elses space.

Some people are fat because of medical conditions, but they are very much in the minority. Most fat people are fat because they eat too much and exercise too little.
Maybe she only seemed that because she was wearing half her luggage to avoid excess baggage charges on her suitcase.
Re bondgirl007- Yes we can't assume it is the person's own fault that they are so big, but I still think flip-flop has a point in that some people take up more than their fair share of space and make the journey uncomfortable for others
well i have to say i agree. I especially hate it when people's flabby thighs spread out and touch my (not inconsiderable) thighs!

Very fat people in the US have to purchase two tickets on most airlines, which I believe is correct, why should people suffer next to these people!
They should have made her travel in cargo hold :)
Perhaps it would help if the airlines would fit slightly larger seats and stop piling people in like sardines? I do find that many airlines try to maximise their profits by squeezing as many seats as possible onto their aircraft, totally disregarding passenger comfort, legroom and sometimes even safety etc. Especially the cheap fair airlines do this. A sign of our times?

The seats are too small. Even when the person sitting next to you isn't fat I still find they invade my space.
I think they should be charged extra the same as if your luggage is to heavy. Wouldn't that be fair?

Yes, I would charge by how much weight is being transported.
