I popped over to Budapest at the weekend to see a friend who is working there, and on the flight I sat next to a lady who must have been at least 20 stone - she was huge.

In addition to taking up her own space, her size meant she was taking up probably about a third of my space as well, which made for an extremely uncomfortable flight.

This isn't the first time this has happened to me.

Should there be a booking condition whereby if you are over a certain weight you have to purchase 2 tickets - and if you don't, you don't fly?

The current situation is not fair on those of us within a 'normal' weight band who are made to suffer because some people can't control their eating.

Equal access for all says I.

Larger seats, larger loos, more leg room and wider aisles. That way we can all be treated as "normal" rather than some people having "special requirements". This would all amount to less seats per aeroplane I know, but we really should stop and think about the real cost of air travel rather than the ridiculously cheap rates we are becoming acustomed to. I agree that getting rid of buiness class and sharing the space around is a good idea. It will put the prices up but if we continue reducing the space it will soon become an issue for 16 stone passengers and in a few years time 13 stone pasengers and so on.

The discrimination act will apply to the airlines eventually but at the moment its a disgrace that we are talking about treating each other so abysmally and even thinking of charging a large person more than a small person.

So despite the initial backlash, it would appear that most people on this thread agree that it wasn't fair.
flip flop...i think the backlash was more because the was a slight hint in your op, that you were sneering and being insulting...its very slight but theres definitely a tone to it in the last line...

but yes i think most people would agree its unfair, regardless of the hows and whys of the persons condition.
Boo, I have just read your post, Yes, my answer was removed I do not think it was in bad taste & neither was I having a stab at people that are over weight, If I remember it was the cost of fuel & weight of the plane getting off the ground, I will not say anymore on this! due to a previous ban??????
Hi flippy,

I travel quite a bit in a year, due to my work.

Many years ago....If i was given a tenner every time an airline placed me next to a rather obese man or woman, i'd be very rich by now! lol

No arm space no leg space seems thay haven't yet discovered soap..yuk!....and the annoying habit of spitting their food when they eat the meal.....i now try and travel first class, if alone, which never guarantees anything but at least you get a bit more comfort.

I love travelling economy when going on family hols though, as we are a family of six and take up a whole row!

Yogi, if you had seen the bloke i did earlier today on the bus, who took up two seats, not even two inches to spare either side, think what he would be like on a plane.. Then he nearly spiked someone with the large brolly he was waving around, as said never a dull moment. Plane travel isn't fun
You're not wrong, em10........or you get the one who moves about so much behind you, they keep sticking their knee in the back of your seat.

It's not the first time i either punch the seat or force it up if the ones in front use the "recline full" mode and you end up with hardly any space........i occasionally let them know in no uncertain terms that my seat has been paid for and i dont expect to have piggin' space designed for Mini-Me!!

They soon get the message....:0)
