As a previous thread i was involved in shows I HATE MY JOB. Last week i booked my annual summer holiday and booked the time i work, i was moaned at because the day i come back is the day the other person on my team goes, so there will be no proper hand over ( bearing in mind for the past two months i have had an average of 1-2 hours work to do a day the rest of the time i have nothing to do ) i would have thought a hand over would be pretty pointless exercise. So this annoyed me then this morning i was coming to work on the M40 and there had been a pretty bad crash and i got stuck in the tailback, i called work straight away to say i would be late and what had happened. I was stuck in traffic for around about an hour making me an hour and fifteen mins late for work but it was unavoidable. The first thing my boss said to me when i got in was ina very sarcastic tone " why has it taken you an hour longer than everyone else to get here?" This really annoyed me as it implyed i was lying or had daudled on my way to work which i hadnt. Am i being too sensitive?

Good Luck.  You are doing the right thing.

Aston Martin - Newport Pagnell?

A boring and practical consideration - do you have financial commitments.  If so, can you cover them for 3 months without work?  It may take a little time to get a new job. If you stick the current one while looking, you can still pay the bills and look forward to leaving.

Leaving a pants job is deeply satisfying, but don't let emotion get in the way of practical considerations if those practical considerations are significant.

However, Bangkok if Gem123 has the skills and lives in an area where temping is easy to get then she has nothing to lose.  And temping has been said very often leads to permanent, in fact it's often the best way for both employer and employee to find out if they suit each other.
Error:  And temping, as has been said very often, .......

FP, totally agree, and do not want to stop what would seem to make Gem happy.  However, if she lives in a high unemployment area and had credit card debts.....

Sorry, I know it is dull.....

Not dull, Bangkok, just cautious and wise.  I just assumed that Gem lives in an area with no employment problems with ample temping opportunities.  I wouldn't offer the same advice to someone supporting and home and family, or with great financial obligations.

I would never accuse you of being dull!

Sounds just like my previous female boss - you dont happen to work in retail do you.  I worked solidly for her for years with her bullying me but when I got married and pregnant she became the devil incarnate - something to do with her being older and career orientated rather than wanted a family - I had to go on maternity leave 3 months earlier due to harrassment and her bullying.  My only regret was not telling her to stick her job.

Just popped back - I can fully understand Bangkok's caring comments (not boring at all - very sensible in fact).

It would be great if & when you do hand your notice in, that your boss begs you to stay & says she'll be nice to you from now on......but it does seem as though you've already made your mind up Gem.

Good luck for tomorrow again & let's know how it went!

FP- no its not in newport pagnell its in Gaydon

Bangkok i have some financial commitments ie me and my boyfriend live in a house owned by his mum and we pay her rent, i have a car on finance and a contract phone. As FP  said temping is quite plentiful in my area but after going home and having a good old fashined moan with my boyf and best friend i have decided to wait untill i have a few interviews lined up and then hand my notice in, if nothing comes of the interviews by the time im due to leave i will temp for a while

At least all this has brought it to the front, Gem and you have now made a considered and well thought out decision.  Good luck in whatever you decide.  When you go into work just remain calm in the knowledge that it won't be for long.
