Television adiction
7 Answers
When i am home i find it extremely difficult to stop myself from watching the television. Even now i have the television on in the background and am half watching it. My home, car and garden need cleaning and general looking after, but i will just leave it to watch television. I feel a little panicky when i switch the television off and so i switch it back on. Even things that are of benefit to me are put to one side for this machine. Could someone please give me advice on how to deal with this adiction (well it feels like an adiction). Thank you.

My TV is ALWAYS on - even if only for background noise. Most of the time I'm not watching it, tonight forr instance, it has been on since about 7 o'clock and I haven't watched one programme totally, just keep catching glimpses of what is going on.
If I didn't have the telly on, I'd feel like one of my legs was missing or something,

I sympathise because I mourn the loss of many years of my life sat watching the TV. The thing is, TV is good, and does have a place in our lives. What it sounds like you miss is the company it gives you. Try turning it off, and instead, listen to some fantastic, inspiring or nostalgic music. That way, you can have something on, but it will force you to do something else at the same time. When I was at College, living in one room, I only had a Hi-Fi, and spent hours making ceramic sculptures whilst listening to music. Or reading, or being creative. Now the TV grips me every night and I watch it motionless. I am going to buy a hi-fi for my room and turn off the TV now!!!
