I hate it when people rub their eyebrows the wrong way, or when they 'crack' their knuckles. My husband hates touching dry cotton wool, or polystyrene pieces rubbing together.

What's the most common cringe-factor among us ABs?

wet clothes that smell because they haven't dried properly.

I hate newspapers the feel, smell etc. Its been like this from childhood. If I get on the tube and theres a paper on a spare seat, I wont be able to move it on order to sit down and if my boyfriend has been reading a newspaper, I wouldnt be able to touch his hands till they were washed! Its very strange and dont know where its stemmed from! Sounds a bit like an OCD!
People that stir tea or coffee round and round and round... finger tappers and foot waggers. I hate the  feel of chalk - and I'm terrified of balloons.
a friend at work can't stand anyone filing their nails with either file or emery board.

The thought of wool scraping on my teeth, back in primary school  i used to chew the cuff of my wollen jumper, looking back i dont know how i did it ! just thinking about it makes me cringe. Also terracotta pots  !!!!! the sound the lid makes when it scrapes against the base......i hope someone else understands.

The sound and feel of a towel between the teeth makes me cringe..........I don't walk about much with a towel in my mouth but the thought if it gives me shivers!
Nu, i know what you mean about people chewing towels, my Dad has always done it for some strange reason.
I hate microphone heads, not the metal ones but the big furry ones.
OK, I've just thought of one of the worst ones, chewing on foil!!!
Oooh Kitty Glitter.  How right you are.  It is dreadful when you get a bit of Kitkat wrapper in your mouth.

i can't stand having to lick anything really dry like stamps, envelopes and wooden lollipop sticks. I get a shiver down my spine just thnking about it. I can't even stand to see anyone else do it.

I wonder what causes us to cringe at certain things?

I'm with FP on the whole scratching legs through tights thing...can't stand it! Also shiver when a fork scrapes on glass. My mum can't bear seeing or hearing anyone rub their hands on carpet or wallpaper!

The grinding of teeth makes me cringe!  The plastic wrapping on Asda's own brand loo roll makes me shudder.  It's got a wierd texture which I can't bear to touch.  My other half takes great pleasure in my misery by chasing me down the aisle with a pack of four, making me squeal like a child in the process.

Tap dancing / Irish dancing where they wear those long green gowns and kick the back hem while otherwise standing stock still.

Wow, I'm glad I posted this question, the answers are so interesting. I forgot about foil on teeth. I think it's a reaction with fillings, isn't it? One of my friends did it and his face went into such a spasm that his false teeth fell out!
My best friend can't touch potatoes with dry mud still all over them, like when you buy a sack.
cotton wool, definately
cetti, i too don't like chalk and for some reason my mouth also produces saliva in over drive when ever i c it.  My daughter chases me around the house with it, when she is in a wind mummy up mood. (BLees em!!!)

nail files and chalk on blackboards

My father used to gag at feathers left on a dead chicken and fur on dead rabbits. I have a friend who can't bear to walk on grass with bare feet.
