10 days on and don't feel significantly better. The cold, viral infection lingers on, and have had bad stomach problems, like spasms in the gut, grips then goes away, then comes back, going on for 4 days. I have almost finished the course of antibiotics. My ears are so blocked that i can hardly hear radio, it all sounds so far away. Doctor said if i haven't improved after a week, should give me them a ring, but did think the medication would at least help. Any advice most welcome.

Stomach problems could be associated with the antibiotics but on the other hand needs looking into by a medic.

By the virus /cold I assume that you mean muscle pains, temperature cough and general malaise and if that is the situation, then you need your condition reassessing by the medic, as 10 days is now getting a rather long time.

Sqad, a constant cough, the reason for the antibiotics, and the earache i have had since it kicked off. The doc said it was a virus, and there seems a lot of people going through similar. I have the whole the whole kitchen sink, muscular pains, feeling so cold i have been housebound almost the whole time, wrapped up like an egyptian mummy. And a hacking cough, lots of mucus, some at the beginning was tinged with blood. I told the doc all this, but the hearing hasn't improved at all. Add into long term tinnitus which like before, has just got louder, thus the sleepless nights.
Question Author
i had this before, and it lasted 5 weeks, so hence the need for something, so don't go through that again.
"Doctor said if i haven't improved after a week, should give me them a ring"

erm ... give the doctor a ring?? (at an outside guess!)
Question Author
i did, though not much help. I was looking for impartial advice.
i don't get it? what makes you think your doctor isn't giving you impartial advice? it's not really in their interests to leave you unwell because it's more work for them :)
em I'm sorry you are feeling so unwell and like you said, a lot of people are going through this right now.
My own daughter has the cough and ear problems and is now on her 2nd lot of antibiotics.
Get another lot of antibiotics but if you are still ill after them, then you need to see your doc again.
Hope you will feel better for Christmas x
me too xx
Question Author
i called them just a short while ago, i am not able to hear well now, so thought perhaps someone here might suggest something else i can try. The doctor couldn't suggest any thing further, than what i have already done.

i have followed their advice, and do not feel any better, which is what i told them.
Hi Em - I think its a particularly nasty strain which is going around, no end of people I know have it. Hubby and I have both had it well over a week, and as you say it seems to go away but next day comes back worse. Get well soon x
Hope you feel better for Christmas em10, if you aren't feeling much better ask for a different antibiotic, don't be stuck over the holidays. Loads of people are suffering with this at the mo. Stay warm.

sorry to keep this going, Have a doctors app tomorrow, and really feel unwell. Eating is proving to be difficult as everything is going through, and wonder if have this horrible norovirus.
haven't been sick yet, but feel nauseous. It says on NHS website if you have this virus is stay away from doctor, hospital, but confess i am not sure what it is, or what to do. seeing as how i had pancreatitis in the past, i am worrying myself silly.
em can't you get the doctor to come out to you? You sound to ill to be going out.
Don't self diagnose on the internet, just get yourself to the Docs tomorrow.
Question Author
missprim, i could get there, but if it's this norovirus they won't like it as it's highly contagious, i have felt like this for 11 days, but the stomach problems for the last 5, don't know whether to call them or just try and sweat it out.
Question Author
evianb i had been to see them last week, and was given antibiotics, which i have taken. I don't usually ask for advice on the net, but guess it's got me worried.
I meant stop looking at things like Norovirus.
Oh em you must see someone but I know they don't like you going to the surgery if it's contagious. I know some GP's receptionists are not the most helpful of people but I think you should explain the situation to them. Tell them you don't want to spread anything but you need to see someone so can they come to you. Have you tried the NHS helpline for some advice?
