Well I am back from the hospital....minus a large onion ring sized chunk of cervix [my best mates description]...a little sore but hopefully cancer free!!!!!
The gynaecologist is confident that she managed to get it all as the 'patches' very contained and localised.
I will get my results on the 13th of Jan but for now it's all good!!!
I really can't thank you all enough for being here for me.....and I will keep you all updated when the results are back, but like I said the gynaecologist thinks she got it all and the nurse reassured me she only says that when she feels she has! Worst case scenario right now is to have the same procedure again if she did miss any.
I'm just amazed [and a little annoyed at the doctor who gave me the diagnosis] that it could be dealt with so easily! I know they have to cover all the bases but there was no mention that this could be sorted with a colcoscopy. There really was no need for her to start telling me about chemo etc... a simple 'I'm no expert and lets see what the hospital have to say' would have sufficed.
That said I know it wouldn't have stopped me from worrying like I did.
You may now get referred onto Clinical Oncology for some adjuvant radiotherapy. If I were you, I would have any treatment they recommend. The more treatment you receive, the less likelihood of a recurrence.
It may be that you don't need any follow up treatment.
As for having regular smears, it is vital that women have them when called. I had an abnormal smear necessitating a colposcopy at the tender age of 21. Had I never bothered having them, I probably wouldn't be here now.
Brilliant news, lisa, how quick was that?! All good as you say, so you can try to forget about it for a couple of weeks, enjoy Christmas and New Year!
..and I do endorse what NoM says, it's scary the number of women who don't go for their cervical screening checks. It's nothing to be scared or embarrassed about, and it saves lives.
