How do GP's cope?
78 Answers
If I were a GP (and the nation can breathe a sigh of relief that I'm not) I think I would spend most of my time suspended in disbelief!
IBS (dodgy stomach), lactose intolerant (don't like milk), etc etc. When I was growing up in the 50's/60's these didn't exist.
Please someone tell me that NHS resources are put to better use.

Remember Victorian times, women had the vapours, people died from all sorts of catch-all conditions. IBS is far more than a dodgy stomach (I have a family prone to Crohns, believe me - the symptoms are hideous). I blame a lot of the allergies on people's obsession with cleanliness these days - kids aren't exposed to anything remotely buggy in their young days, all sorts of sensitivities come out later.
Better use that what, do you suggest? Illness prevention is what takes up a lot of GPs' time these days, trying to stop people dying young, sometimes from things they can (often) do something about, like obesity, smoking and addiction of Macdonalds.

What a load of ignorant nonsense. These are real ailments, with real people suffering from them. Just because they weren't specifically identified by the currently used names doesn't mean that they weren't around and being treated by GPs in the 50s and 60s.
I'm not surprised you wound up with a new username - I'd guess the old one was worn out from having feet inserted in mouth on a regular basis.
