Dressing a surgical wound

Hi guys. I just recently had an ankle arthroscopy and had my bandages removed Tuesday. I have since had to change the dressings and go to see the nurse as one of the wound sites is not healing and has been discharging so much it soaked through the dressings. The nurse gave me some dressings that are made of a type of skin like plastic (not sure what they are called) which are great when they go on but they start to peel off within a couple of hours due to body heat and the fact that the wound site is on the front of my ankle/foot so the continuous bending when walking just stretches the dressings too far. Can anyone suggest a good type of dressing I could buy to keep the wounds covered as they are not healing and I can't leave them exposed. I have tried some called MEPORE also which work great but they were given to me from the hospital and we have now rum out due to the continuous discharge I was getting. Boots do not appear to sell anything of use. I don't want to waste another £5 on something that is again useless. Any suggestion son dressing types or a way I could dress the site without it creasing and peeling when I use my foot? It's in such an awkward area. Up to now when I have had surgery it has always been in a cast so I haven't had to worry about dressing it.

Thanks for your help

Your local chemist should sell MEPORE dressings.
In my humble opinion the 3 best dressings are Mepore Ultra, Mepore and Softpore.
Why not ring the hospital and ask them if you can call in for some more dressings, or see your GP for a prescription
I buy Mepore dressings in my local Boots shop, so if I can get them surely your local branch would be able to get them for you. I remember they ran out once and ordered them in specially for me I bought a whole box as opposed to just a few at a time. Give them another go, ask them to order them in for you.
My local Co-Op chemist sells them, you have to ask for them at the counter though.

Thanks guys

Local Boots has nothing like them - just waterproof own brand which just won't stick. Tried Boots online but also cannot find them. Shall have to have a look round if I can get into town. Thanks for your help.

I will have to get them to order them I guess. Problem is I haven't got anything to cover the wound when this dressing comes off and it is already peeling - I only put it on about 2 hours ago lol. Am off to the docs tomorrow for something else - will ask him if he has anything that will tide me over. What a faff.
headwreck, Mepore Ultra are good for those with an allergy...even to Mepore

When my husband had a wound that wouldn`t heal we had some dressings that contained silver. These worked very well. Worth asking.
Hi Greedyfly,
Sorry can't offer any help on your last question, but can you help me - you answered a question posted ages ago about the toy that produces a jet of air to float a ball above it, saying it was available from gadget sites - can you tell me what it's called or where to get it from. Hoping you can help and good luck with you post-op recovery. Regards Jacky
Hi,
Sorry I can't offer any help with this question, but I'm wondering if you can help me? You posted an answer to someone else regarding a toy that uses a jet of air to float a ball above it, saying that they were available in gadget shops...can you tell me what it's called and/or where I could get one from? Hope you get some help with your wound problem and recover asap. Kind regards - Jacky

Hi Rockhopper I dont recall answering a question like that - it must have been some time ago - I dont get on here very much anymore. I can't think of anywhere that I have seen one of these, I do know what you mean though. Maybe Hawkins Bazaar might be worth a try?

Thanks for your answers guys - I just fear another infection. I got one last time and I just want to get back to work ASAP.
Thanks for your help and hope you recover soon.
Nibble's using Mepore over his knee wound, greedy, but fastening it on round the edges with copious applications of Micropore tape.
