You can still buy stamps at the current rate, and if they just say 1st/2nd rather than the price, you can go on using them even if prices rise. Try W.H. Smith's website.
can I also point out that even thos they go up on the 30th - if you have a business account with them (ie print off via the comp or print a PPI in the corner) the prices actually go up on the 2nd April!!!
When decimal currency started here, in 1971, a 1st class stamp was 3p and a second class one was 2 1/2p ! Don't know what those prices are equal to now, allowing for inflation etc, but the new rates seem very high.
I don't post very often but when I do post 1st class it can take more than a day to get to its destination so I may as well have posted it 2nd. But no, the price increase won't affect me at all really.
people will use alternative methods of getting their letters to their destination, or indeed stop sending post, that is what has been happening already i guess, with e mail, and other message carriers. And it is a lot and will put people off i'm sure.
I think the price is ridiculous already. I didnt really know the prices as Ive lost track. I usually buy a book in with my shopping and I only use them when I need to. Ive already been caught out using embossed cards or a card with an childrens age badge on and the recipient has had to pay extra charge. My sister has been sending e mail cards for a year or two. Not quite the same I know, although some of them are really nice. I dont mind, but some family members object to it. But when it costs more to send than the price of the card, I dont blame her.
