I need to se the scene first.

You know the coloured lights you get when you rub your eyes? Yes.

And you know the paint effect you get when you flick a paintbrush on paper? Yes.

Ok good.

Just lately I get this "splash of colour" in my vision as if someone in my head is flicking a paintbrush at the back of my eyeball. It dissapears almos immediately but I am starting to get concerned.

Any ideas?

seeing as no-one else has offered an opinion...firstly, go get it checked, both by an optician and a doctor. Secondly, migraine comes in many forms, not just the headache variety. Visual disturbance by itself is quite common, though in my own experience it lasts longer than just a flash. I get 15-20 minute spells of circling twisting colours, no headache or sickness, but it's still been diagnosed as a form of migraine.
Any visual disturbances should be checked.  If you don't want to go to a GP go to somewhere like vision express.  My local one has amazing eye equipment.  They should be able to spot any reasons and would refer you to a GP if necessary. Don't forget!
