Has anyone had a sebaceous cyst removed?  I'm having this procedure done next week under local anasthetic and I was wondering what to expect.  Will it be really painful?

Ahem.....

Nurse. Ahem.

That was a shock. 'Nurse practitioners' can do it.

Honestly? Honestly? The local anaesthetic injection was the most focussed pain I have experienced in my entire life. And my girlfriend passed out when one of the nurses invited my girlfriend over to see the 'blood'.

Good to have it done though.

By the way, I just found out that you can insist on a doctor if you so wish.
I had a large cyst right on the front of my head, getting the anasthetic wasnt painfull but I could feel some pressure as they took the cyst out try and relax as much as you can when its being done, the nurses kept talking to me to distract me which was great.
I had one removed from my face and the only pain I had was afterwards, when they took the stitch out.

I had one taken off my shoulder three weeks ago by my GP.   The injection was painful/uncomfortable, but the procedure itself was painless due to the anaesthetic.   The doc insisted on showing me what came out, which was the worst bit!

There was quite a bit of bruising and discolouration afterwards, but that soon went.

Oh, the worst bit with hindsight was when I had the dressing removed a few days later:-   the nurse managed to strip all the hairs off my shoulder when the plaster thing was taken off (aaarrgh!)

Good luck!

I know several people who've had them removed, including my brother who had one on his face.  None of them complained of anything more than a little soreness.  Don't worry maxd, you'll be fine.
i had one removed from my cheek in feb,and the local hurt little bit, but didnt feel anything from the actual operation, the benefits were great though, i had a great big  hole in my cheek for years, which everybody i saw put down to an open pore from squeezing spots ,and it  turned out to be a cyst.im 49 now and havent squeezed spots for 30 yrs! This open pore had caused me misery for years and had been told i would just have to live with it, no amount of make-up etc would cover it.now am able to put  foundation to smooth finish. have tried to condense this, come back if you want to know the full tale!
I had one removed from my groin under a local anesthestic - didn't hurt at all and they showed it to me,  looked like a prawn. Bit sore after for a couple of days but only because of where it was.  Good luck you'll be fine
i had one removed from about 1cm away from my left eye. the actual procedure was not painful at all, although i felt a weird tugging sensation as it was cut out. the most painful bit was the anaesthetic injection because as you can guess it was done very close to my eye where the skin is thin and sensitive. however, it cleared up really well and im only left with a small scar that only shows when im hot or sunburnt. so dont worry about it, the pain is minimal and for a very short time. good luck! xx
