celtigra, bambiagain, futritcat and greedyfly had said about morphine :-(
Had op on toes last Wednesday and decided to have the spinal instead of general which was painful but not too bad.
That night though there was lots of pain in my foot and they suggested morphine.
Should have said no but I was only thinking about getting rid of the pain and getting some sleep.
Didn't work that way though as I had some sort of reaction and all my body was as itchy as hell.
Then came the stomach pain and the retching, didn't know what to do with myself.
Still I'm not too bad now and clonking around with a charming shoe that has a huge wedge and velcro fasteners.
Just wanted to let those of you who wished me good luck to know I will soon be up and running!
Thank you for posting Missprim. I was wanting to ask after you on Thursday, but as you had mentioned you wouldn't be out until then, I left it.
Glad you're home.
Take care of yourself and heal xxx
Morphine can be horrible stuff to those who are sensitive to it!
16 years ago I had my first spontaneous pneumothorax (collapsed lung), I was given morphine whilst they put my chest tube in and then a morphine pump (patient controlled) for the following 9 days whilst we waited for my lung to re-inflate. I had no issues apart from being 'out of it' for the whole time.
8 years later and another pneumothorax requiring a chest drain occurred, they gave me morphine again and I just projectile vomited for hours at a time. :(
I'm glad your op went well missprim and you are recovering quickly.x
Glad to hear you're getting better. I do sympathise about the morphine, though. I had an op in April and some nurse chose to ignore the no morphine instructions, which I realised too late - with the result that a day case turned into an overnight stay and I spent much of the time throwing up.
You were very brave having the spinal, in my opinion.
Glad op went well....the itchings horrrrribble isnt it! Such a common side effect....lesson learned eh!? Take care and rest up ...be good to you ;0> xx
The only way to find out that you are intolerant to morphine is to have morphine.
I'm not allergic to it but react similarly to you so when my doctor asks if I have any allergies I say know but I can't handle morphine. He always finds an equivalent.
All that besides, I hope you get better soon. :)
Glad its all over missp and you're feeling better.
I had morphine after my heart op it helped me sleep but I had horific nightmares, I refused it after that.
Hope all goes well & GWS.
Thanks to all.
I used to have morphine as an injection when I had gall bladder prob DT and had no problem with it.
This time they gave it to me orally in liquid form so don't know if perhaps there might be a difference in the composite??(not sure if that's the right word) of it.
Anyway, it's all done now and hopefully no more ops. :-)
