Main Entry: living room
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: room in house for relaxing
Synonyms: LR, best room, common room, drawing room, foreroom, front room, front room drawing room, livingroom, parlor, parlour, salon, sitting room, withdrawing room

Who on earth calls it a withdrawing room?
Sitting room or living room. At my last house I had a "snug" which was a second living/sitting room.
Isn't 'withdrawing' something to do with when the men of the house would bugg off to smoke cigars they would 'withdraw'?
We have a larger Sitting Room and a smaller back-sitting room.

We call them 'Living Room' and 'Snug' to save confusion.
All of the above depending whom I am speaking to
Oh and drawing room as we still have the old servant bell system in place and that one comes up as the drawing room

sherrardk..........interesting........I thought it was the wives that "withdrew" leaving the men to their stories and cigars.

I still remember fondly those days.
Sqad - something to do with some withdrawing (might have been the women).
