I have spent the greater part of the day finding things to do to avoid starting something I have to do.
Does anyone else do the same?

Depends what the something is.
All the time.

For instance, today I really should have been hoovering the front hall, cleaning out the fridge, sorting out baby clothes to go into the loft and having a look at Mr P's tax return.

Instead I have faffed about on here, hunted on Amazon for a new toastie machine and organised the cutlery drawer.
I'm lozzin on the sofa feeling miserable when i should be shopping.
yes i keep doing everything else but what i should be doing

I should have been getting stuff together for a seminar on Monday but have cleaned the coffee machine, poked about on AB, played Scrabble, de-salted the dogs' collars, painted my nails and so on and on.

You have an excuse with your miserable cold. Get someone to make you a hot toddy when the sun is over the yardarm.
Yes, then when I finally do the dreaded thing, I just feel relieved that it's done and it wasn't as bad as I feared it would be.
I know exactly what you mean happens to me often.
I'm an avid list maker and I always do the worst thing first.

It saves me a lot of grief and frees me up to do what I want to do.
Constantly !
anne, yes - when I was studying a few years back, I would do anything rather than start to write - I had the cleanest toilet ever.
PS - AB is a great displacement activty - I ought to be getting ready for a meeting tonight.
When I have a bath I constantly put rubber bricks in the water wih me until it flows out of the overflow pipe. Does this count as a displacement activity then?
Monday is a whole week away, I'd be displacing it too at this stage. I;d probably have a go at in on Thursday or Friday but not really sort it until the last minute! Much can be done on the train journey to the seminar in fact :)
Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow
all the time anne, that dammed roller blind has stood up the corner for at least a month, while I have wasted time doing allsorts of stuff that really did'nt matter, now the dark nights are here and I hate that black empty window.
I've put one particular job off since the start of September (probably wouldn't take that long and would make me feel loads better for having got it done). It is now scheduled for either tomorrow or Wednesday (as I have NOTHING to do on those days). Probably still won't be done by the end of the week though.
never do anything today that you could put off till tomorrow !

I had given myself a hypothetical deadline of Tuesday to get all done, including uploading presentation, etc.
I feel bad for not having done it yet, but not bad enough to make a start.
Well I've test driven a car and took a stray cat to the vets to avoid tidying the kitchen.
