hi everyone. when i tried getting on my bike this morning, my back 'went'. i am now sat on my floor with excruciating pain in the lumbar region. i have never had pain here before (but i have back problems as i broke my neck as a teenager - usually that pain is between my shoulder blades). i am stuck on my living room floor in agony (and i have a fentanyl patch on, and taken co-codamol, tramadol, meloxicam and pregabalin at 8am). what should i do? actually, i have just managed to crawl on my sofa (so my bum doesn't hurt as i have also broken my coccyx in the past too). please help, i am in agony! x x x

thank you everyone for your support and advice...i'm going to camp on my sofa with a hot water bottle and neck as many painkillers as i can. if it's still bad tomorrow i will go to gp/walk in centre or a+e as appropriate. it hurts so much!!! x
Gently massage the bottom of your spine in a circular movement too, that helps (or get OH to do it!) You say you can't use Ibruprofen so Ibruleve cream is out of the question but what about Voltarol (contains Diclofenac so best get advice from Sqad if it mixes with your other meds) I think that is brilliant or Freeze Spray or Gel - all these available from chemists but check they are safe to use for you...........
Do you have a stick to lean on to help you walk, its just a bit of support .........

and it's my day off.....
Have you ever used Pernaton? It's from the green-lipped mussel and very effective. Not advertising!
Ouch Poor you. I hope you feel better soon. Get plenty of rest. x

annemollie.....thank you, but i'm going to stick with my bucket load of opoid painkillers. as they are starting to work now, it has eased a tiny bit. this is the first time this has happened, so it's a new experience for me. i just really like the support and advice you get on here....it's comforting x
How nasty are you desktop! This is not in the spirit of AB. If you can't be nice to somebody who's obviously not well, SAY NOTHING!
Oh dear desktop that is a bit harsh, Is It not?
Question Author
carry on being spiteful if you like, desktop. the truth hurts, does it not?
Desktop- stop with those kind of comments. If you continue, we'll remove you, not just your comments.

lcg- hope you get better soon xx
Loads and loads of people suffer this back pain Icg, its the main reason people are off work sick. Its so incapacitating as you are completely stuck and can hardly move. I did pay to go to an osteopath once but he made it worse, best to just rest x

Don't rise to desktop's bait Icg, you have your own pain to contend with not that one! ;)
Question Author
what does an osteopath actually do? particularly with back pain like this....i would be slightly scared to go without knowing beforehand x
'Morning lcg, sorry to hear you're suffering this morning, at least it sounds as if the painkillers are kicking in, lets hope you start to feel better soon, not a nice way to spend your day off!
