66 Answers
hi everyone. when i tried getting on my bike this morning, my back 'went'. i am now sat on my floor with excruciating pain in the lumbar region. i have never had pain here before (but i have back problems as i broke my neck as a teenager - usually that pain is between my shoulder blades). i am stuck on my living room floor in agony (and i have a fentanyl patch on, and taken co-codamol, tramadol, meloxicam and pregabalin at 8am). what should i do? actually, i have just managed to crawl on my sofa (so my bum doesn't hurt as i have also broken my coccyx in the past too). please help, i am in agony! x x x

Oh did I miss some nastiness??
Hey if you say you are in pain then I beleive you and sure you wouldnt milk it.
I for one hate being ill or otherwise immobile/injured. I hate being confined to bed!!
One thing for sure, nothing wrong with your fingers hahaha, joking!
Sure the pain will relent, rest up and take the GOOD advice that has been shared on here.

if you have taken all those drugs at once that you said you did at 8am you will soon be dead and pain free ;-)
For a start -if you cannot take Ibobrufen -which is a NSAID then you cannot take Meloxicam as this also is an NSAID . Fentanyl is a synthetic opiod used mainly in pallative care, being 10 times stronger than morphine gram for gram and often used as a recreational drug. Pregabalin is wisely used for fibromyalgia and generalised anxiety disorder as well as seizures and spinal cord injuries -so along with Tramadol, another weak opiod and co-codamol, looks like you've covered all bases there lol!
please tell me you are taking the preverbial and I just haven't cottoned on - and Squad - are you a doctor cos if you are you should have picked up on this <joke>

mags....i am a nurse, so i know what i am doing. the reason i can't take ibuprofen IS because i take meloxicam (otherwise i would be on too many nsaids and that is really not good). no, i am not taking the piss, either. i am stuck on my sofa still and have just munched another load of painkillers (the same as earlier) and i am not dead. i take painkillers all the time, so am used to the levels of meds i take.
not that i have to explain myself to you, mind.....i posted on here because this is the first time i have experienced excruciating back pain and i wanted a range of advice so i could make my own decisions about what to do. so please don't lecture me about the drugs i take or whether my problems are real....i'll listen to my acquaintances on answerbank who know of me and know that i would never take the piss about something like this. thank you.

thanks, murray. have just got another hot water bottle as well, so that is helping. i haven't attempted to move or stand up yet - i don't think i can face that just now, so i'll stay on the sofa and get my slave to help me with the finer things in life (i.e. coffee, cigarettes, dvd's and chocolate!). i'm just waiting for the painkillers to get me warm and fuzzy again.....x
@lcg There is no need to get aggressive. If you are taking all those drugs on a regular basis then I hope your Ward Manager is aware of this and the condition you have that requires this level of medication. ( you say this back pain is the result of an accident this morning so you wouldn't have access to these drugs unless you had an on going serious medical condition) Hopefully its just a pulled muscle.
