Hi there I am begining to get really agitated about my colonoscopy on friday having insomnia already and cant think about anything else I really need to get this done but I need to calm down because Im going to drive myself mad. Any tips on how to relax

Had a colonoscopy once and like you was not looking forward to it. Had to have it so went ahead. Told the doctor doing it that I was nervous and she said don't worry I'll sort you out!
Pleased to say I woke up in recovery asking when it was going to be done. You've guessed it - thanks doc.

Take reassurance from the hundreds, if not thousands of these procedures that are carried out every week up and down the country.
If this is your first time you're bound to be apprehensive but there's nothing to worry about, you'll be in the care of people who know exactly what they're doing. They'll answer any questions you may still have on the day and the whole thing will be over in no ime at all.
Try deep breathing exercises to relax your body and ease your mind as you concentrate on the rhythm you use.

The very first one I had I was a total wreck because I did not know what to expect,but honestly If you are having Sedation gordie1 you will be fine,you will feel very little and probably remember even littler.Best wishes.x

What liquid? desktop,There is no liquid used for a Colonoscopy,or rather not the ones I have had and I have had loads done.

Well at least that's an honest answer desktop, even it's not the answer gordie1 was probably hoping for.
I had no problems at all- in fact I remember really enjoying the cup of tea and food (toast i think) afterwards as I felt really relaxed. Having to have those fluids on the day before was the only bit I didn't like. The procedure was painless- I drifted off in seconds

Gordie....I've had to have a few. A little uncomfortable but no pain. You can watch on a screen if you like or close your eyes! No liquid involved, other than a nice cuppa.
If I have another my biggest worry will be how to turn off the lousy radio station playing while i am waiting.
You will still worry whatever we say but honestly, you will be fine. x

that sounds more like a colonic irrigation to me, desktop - a colonoscopy won't give you piles.

You really mustn't worry! I've had a fair few and they are a doddle- just make sure they give you lots of nice sedation. I agree- tell them you are worried and not to skimp on it! You lie on your side, knees bent with covers over you, and nobody is looking at you at all- just at the screen cos it's all done magnified. In that sense there is ansolutely no loss of diginity. You hardly feel anything. In fact I enjoy watching the screen- it's fascinating. I've had them with lots of sedation and barely any (that I could feel) and obviously it is nicer with more. They will be doing these all day, every day, so will be in and out very quickly. Try not to worry, in my opinion a smear test is much worse! :)

There's a saying 'a hero dies once, a coward many times'. You're thinking about Friday so much and you're suffering every day when nothing is happening now. And you know what, when it comes to Friday and you have it done, you will say to yourself 'what the hell was I worried about, why did I spend a week tormenting myself over it.' Honestly, you will be fine - tell yourself that every time you think about Friday. Let them do what they have to do and you concentrate on thinking about children, grandchildren, pets or something good you're doing at the weekend. It really will be over and done with very quickly and you'll have the best cuppa and sandwich afterwards. And don't forget to come on here and tell us ' you were all right'.

gordie, it's got to be done. It will be fine. No matter how many of us on here who have had them and have been fine, please trust us, it WILL be fine.
The fear of the unknown is a great fear, and no, there is no chance of getting piles from a colonoscopy or liquid going up there.

Well if it was me that was having this done i would be completely relaxed after reading all these positive comments of support.Folk are right on here...you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

I have said before on AB that desktop is obsessed with poo and toilets , she has just given even more proof.
