Birthmarks are skin pigmentations caused during foetal formation where skin develops additional pigments, leading to small skin blemishes which are visible at birth, but can alter or fade over a lifetime. Not everyone has them, they are a matter of chance occurence. There is no bilogical reason for birthmarks, they are just a bi-product of the miracle of birth.
