Say God is real, and I spend my life an atheist... since I never made the deal with God in the first place, do I go to hell or just go to purgatory?

According to my mother you won't go to heaven unless you've asked Jesus into your life.

She doesn't mention hell...

I was brought up as a catholic, first communion, confirmation, altar boy, the full monty and I'm afraid that when I die I shall lie in my box and rot away like everybody else.I'd like to believe that there is something else to come but I can't

If God exists as described by the Christian faith - he will welcome you into heaven if you repent your sins. If not, we'll all find out togehter.

If you believe as I do as an atheist that there is no afterlife, we won't know anything anyway.

I don't think anyone deals with God, you don't get a say. What will be, will be.

Only God could tell you what is in store for non-believers. Pick your favourite outcome in the meanwhile and stick with it.
