Broken Radius Bone

I broke this bone in my right hand and being right handed am finding most things difficult. I was put in a half cast for a week and I now have a full cast for a further five weeks. It's still quite painful. Any positive feed back would be welcome such as whencan I expect to be back to 'normal'

When you finally get round to physio, follow the exercises rigorously. From a break I had last June/July, I was surprised to learn it takes abut a year for a bone to heal fully.

Crikey. How soon were you able to drive?

If the scaphoid bone at the base of the thumb is involved it can take a long time. I was in a full plaster cast with the thumb encased for 11 weeks. Good luck with it.

Just guessing, but it sounds like a Colles fracture which is the commonest to affect the radius.
Recovery?....how long is a piece of string? depends upon healing and if the pain persists then you will need further check X-Rays.

About six weeks with full cast and then probably a month with wrist support.

You may be in for a long period of restricted wrist activity.

sorry to read this cheat. yes, it could take quite a while to get back to normal. what have they told you at hospital?

cast was on for three weeks, wasn't allowed to drive during that time - even if you think you can, don't, your insurance is invalid

as sqad says, it all varies from person to person. I think looking after the injury with a view to the long term far outweighs any short term inconvenience
