My face has been really really itchy since yesterday - it is driving me mad. Mainly my nose, but my cheeks as well. Have taken anti-histamine but not really done much good. Havent changed soap/shower gel or anything.
Any ideas?? Im rubbing my face like some mad woman, its actually sore now.
You can become allergic to something you have used for years. My daughter's allergist said the most common thing he hears in his clinic is 'but I've not used/eaten/been near anything I haven't encountered before'.
You are more likely to develop an allergy after repeated exposure to a substance than at the first exposure.
a suggestion for some short term temporary relief ...... wash your face thoroughly in luke-warm water - no soap, then sit down and hold a cold damp flannel on your face for two minutes ... take the flannel away and allow your face to dry naturally, wthout towelling . . . see what happens
I suppose if you just make a mental note of everything you've eaten or cosmetic you've used in the last 24 hours you will have some clue if you use it again and similar happens.
It sounds very much like neuro dermatitis, Google it if you want, particularly applicable after your recent social problems
Nip to the chemist and get hydrocortisone cream 1% and apply three times a day to your face.
if you have porridge oats - soak some in a basin with lots of water then dip a cloth in the water and hold it over your face - repeat often. I had a terrible allergic reaction to something years ago and that was the only thing to bring any sort of relief.
I scratch myself to pieces especially on my shoulders and arms. I have always thought it was a habit, although it does itch. I read somewhere about something called 'senile itch' so as I am very old, it could be that. Not in your case of course smowball. Try not to scratch it or you will have a bit more to contend with than itching, such as scarring, and bleeding.
