Thing 1 is fast asleep but has a temperature (don't know how high it is but she's hot, I would give her medicine if she was awake.) Should I wake her up and give her some calpol or leave her alone? (She's five and the latest household 'victim' of chicken pox.) Thanks.
calpol isn't medication in that it will have any effect on the chicken pox, its not like missing a dose of antibiotic. What the Calpol will do is help her to sleep....so if she is sleeping, why give it? if you are concerned that her fever is dangerously high or that she is very unwell then get a doctor out.
there you go then sherrard, if she can sleep without the calpol, that's a good thing. Is she rousable? ie is she moving around in her sleep and can you part wake her?
possibly a little late to reply, but i would say leave her be. try to only give calpol if you think she really needs it - i would certainly not wake a sleeping baby to give calpol. we took wee man to doctors last thursday as he'd had a fever over night (38.4) - she told us only to give calpol if we can't control temperature any other way. Have you got a digital thermometer you can pop under her arm to get a reading if your worried?
If her temperature is still high ,make sure the room is warm then sponge her down with tepid water. Change her nightclothes ,give some Calpol and a cuddle and pop your little girl back in bed.
Hope your little one is on the mend. Horrible when they have chickenpox. Interesting replies, I'm in the minority as I would wake my daughter to give her medicine if I thought she had a temp. The thermometer going in her ear would wake her though lol, I'm very over cautious with temperatures.
