Flying

Am off to the states soon with my daughter to visit her Dad. I am not a good long haul flight flyer. Any tips to take my mind off this or shall I just resort to drugs ?

Agree with voddie about long haul though, much calmer and usually lots of good films. I'd prefer 7 hours to NY than 50 mins with Ryanair to Dublin, especially out of London City airport.

We are flying business class courtesy of my ex, but just the thought of being confined in this tin can just freaks me out. This anxiety has increased as I have got older, menopause etc. Rocky I take your point about Ryanair from City Airport flew with them in a propellor jobby a while ago, I absolutely nearly crapped my pants.
Often people think they`re scared of flying but it`s claustrophobia. There are fear of flying courses you can do - the major airlines run them. It might be worth investing in attending one. Failing that, maybe a mild tranquiliser might help. I would never take a sleeping pill because if anything happens, you don`t want to be sparko.
Ah ! I was going to say it's not the flying, it;s the crashing into a mountain (in which case get a back seat for planes rarely go into reverse).
Oh confined spaces, claustrophobia eh ? Would a set of headphones, a relaxing set of tapes, and a sleeping mask make things better or worse ? The idea is to find something so interesting that it takes your mind of your conditions.

Lol. Rocky, my daughter has laughed at this thread and reminded me it wasn't Ryanair but when we went to Jersey, can't remember the airline, something like island tours or flybe, I was terrified, I was supposed to be the confidant parent with three kids, instead my two sons had to unclasp my fingers from the armrest when we arrived. Lol
