I've got a chest infection and asthma this morning I've woke up in the most terrible pain in my chest and back when I breathe, I've had numerous chest infections in the past but never this pain, any ideas what it is?

I'm not a doctor but sounds like pleurisy, I've had it and its painful. If its viral it usually runs its course, if the cause is bacterial you may need antibiotics so a visit to you GP or Practice Nurse is needed
If you feel well in yourself with no temperature then it would seem it was muscular and no big deal.

However if you ar coughing up coloured or blood stained sputum and feel that you have a temperature then the pain may be of greater significance and a GP visit may be indicated.

My guess is that it is muscular and Ibuprofen may relieve it.
